3 Nippon Moriage Blue-eyed Dragonware Hand Painted Vintage Dish, Made in Japan. Grey matte finish with pastels of pink & blue. No cracks. Collectibles.
Dragonware is Japanese export porcelain decorated with dragons in a technique called moriage meaning "raised enamels". The effect has been likened to cake frosting. Dragonware dates from around the 1880s and later. ODragonware is always Moriage.
Moriage is composed of liquid clay called "slip" that in this case was applied using a hollow bamboo tube (slip decoration). This is a laborious process often found on late 19th & early 20th Cent. Japanese ceramics.
This set would make a great addition to any collection of Japanese or Asian art. Obviously pre-owned and they need cleaning, I’m leaving up to buyer!
Numbered the plates for accuracy. There are some edging dots missing. Plate #1 on lower part of Moriage work has a small little piece missing. All the Moriage has aging lines. At 75+ years old they are imperfect. 7.25”x 3/4” 2lb
